An Enigma Among The Remnant

Since 2006 I have traveled extensively throughout the United States, visiting one Seventh‑day Adventist congregation after another, just observing and visiting with the people. Probably the most puzzling thing I have observed is that the vast majority of Seventh‑day Adventists cannot fathom the idea that God is going to allow their beloved church to be overrun with cunningly devised fables just before the close of probation.

But this enigma is certainly not new among God's people. Throughout all history the vast majority of professed believers trusted the PhDs, doctors and preachers to interpret the Scriptures for them, rather than searching the inspired writings as for hidden treasure themselves. As a consequence, in every church era, false doctrines were introduced into the church by the trusted leaders that eventually led the majority onto the broad road that leads to destruction.

From one epoch to another God would send messengers to reestablish truth among His people, only to have the next few generations compromise and corrupt it. There are several accounts of this in the Bible and they have been recorded for our admonition.

History has shown that God does not stop His church from being overrun with heresy when His people blindly trust the interpretations of fallible uninspired men and women. This being the pattern throughout all recorded history, why should we expect anything different from lukewarm Laodiceans?

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 12:17)

Most Seventh‑Day Adventists know that a time of trouble is coming, but it seems the vast majority are not expecting much of it to come from within, while God's prophets have painted a very different picture.

Meditate upon the this statement for just a moment. "Those who are deceived, know it not!" Could this include you? If you are deceived, you do not know it.

God's prophets have written numerous statements about the conditions that will exist in the Seventh‑day Adventist Church just shortly before Jesus comes back. Below are a few of them...

Every Wind Of Doctrine

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:1‑5)

(2 Timothy 3:1‑5 quoted) This class will be developed among us as a people as well as in the world. Great then is the need that we stand in that position where every jot of our powers may be used to magnify God and His truth. (Australasian Union Conference Record, September 30, 1912 par. 16, Ellen G. White)

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. (Acts 20:29‑30)

...Of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." THIS WILL SURELY BE SEEN AMONG THE PEOPLE OF GOD, and there will be those who are unable to perceive the most wonderful and important truths for this time, truths which are essential for their own safety and salvation, while matters that are in comparison as the merest atoms, matters in which there is scarcely a grain of truth, are dwelt upon and are magnified by the power of Satan so that they appear of the utmost importance. (Evangelism, pg. 593.1, Ellen G. White)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. (1 Timothy 4:1)

What is soon coming upon us? Seducing spirits are coming in. If God has ever spoken by me, you will before long hear of a wonderful science—a science of the devil. Its aim will be to make of no account God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent. Some will exalt this false science, and through them Satan will seek to make void the law of God. Great miracles will be performed in the sight of men in behalf of this wonderful science. (Letter 48, 1907) (3 Selected Messages 408.1, Ellen G. White)

The science Mrs. White referred to could be any number of things, but in 1928 the door was opened for a myriad of false sciences to enter the church when "The Association of Seventh‑day Adventist Colleges and Secondary Schools" was formed for the purpose of accrediting our colleges. Accreditation of our colleges opened the door for every species of false science, worldly philosophy and foolishness to enter the church.

Our colleges were established for the sole purpose of training men and women to take the gospel to the world, and you don't need accreditation or degrees to do that. While Mrs. White was alive she steadfastly opposed accreditation of our schools. But after she died, ill advised men, through accreditation, turned our colleges into a vehicle to bring the world into the church.

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. (Ephesians 4:14)

The days are fast approaching when there will be great perplexity and confusion. Satan, clothed in angel robes, will deceive, if possible, the very elect. There will be gods many and lords many. EVERY WIND OF DOCTRINE WILL BE BLOWING... [In the Seventh‑day Adventist Church] (Testimonies for the Church Vol. 5, pg. 80.1, Ellen G. White)

DIVISIONS WILL COME IN THE CHURCH. TWO PARTIES WILL BE DEVELOPED... (2 Selected Messages, 114, Ellen G. White)

The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:3, 4)

THE EXPERIENCE OF THE PAST WILL BE REPEATED. In the future, Satan's superstitions will assume new forms. Errors will be presented in a pleasing and flattering manner. FALSE THEORIES, CLOTHED WITH GARMENTS OF LIGHT, WILL BE PRESENTED TO GOD'S PEOPLE. Thus Satan will try to deceive, if possible, the very elect. MOST SEDUCING INFLUENCES WILL BE EXERTED; MINDS WILL BE HYPNOTIZED. (Counsels for the Church, pg. 323.6)

What end‑time church only has "sound doctrine"? There is only one—the Seventh‑day Adventist Church. Paul predicted that God's people "will not endure." Why? For the same reason God's people have never endured. Because "they heap to themselves teachers" instead of searching the inspired writings as for hidden treasure themselves.

3ABN, the Hope Channel, scores of Internet teachers, the Adventist Book Center, and many other media outlets have heaps and heaps of teachers the Adventist people are idolizing. Is trusting man's opinions before trusting a "thus saith the Lord" not idolatry? Because of the people's insatiable appetite for sermons, the Adventist people now have mountains of teachers to tickle their itching ears.

The Adventist people have repeated the mistakes of the past. Just as ancient Israel wanted to be like the rest of their neighbors and have a king rule over them, modern Israel wants to be like the other Christian denominations and have preachers hover over them, nurture them, and tell them what to believe. Just as God granted ancient Israel their desire, He has done the same for modern Israel. (Read 1 Samuel, chapters 8 through 12)

Just as ancient Israel reaped a bitter harvest from their desire to do things differently than their Creator prescribed, modern Israel is also under a curse, and for the same reason.

As Jesus said, the Laodiceans are blind. We are weighted down under a curse. If you don't believe me, just look at all the false doctrines that are being taught and all the abominations being committed throughout the church today.

Please understand, I am not opposed to preachers! God has ordained preachers; therefore, preachers are necessary. However, it was never God's intention that the preachers should hover over the existing congregations and preach to the saints the way they do today.

The original mission of the preachers was to take the milk of the word into new territories. It has always been God's plan for mature Christians to take care of themselves and to share the gospel with every unbeliever they can. Sharing the gospel with others is how we grow in grace.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. (Isaiah 28:9)

The early New Testament preachers primary mission was to take the good news of salvation to unbelievers, raising up new congregations and visiting the existing congregations only occasionally. (Read the book of Acts) This was the model our Seventh‑day Adventist pioneers used when they organized the Seventh‑day Adventist Church.

But today, because the people want to be nurtured, rather than go to work, and because the local conference presidents are willing to comply with the people's death wish, we now have full time pastors hovering over most of the congregations. We now have a very different system than what the church had in 1915, the year Ellen White died.

I wish to tell you that soon there will be no work done in ministerial lines but medical missionary work. The work of a minister is to minister. Our ministers are to work on the gospel plan of ministering. It has been presented to me that all through America there are barren fields. As I traveled through the South on my way to the Conference, I saw city after city that was unworked. What is the matter? The ministers are hovering over churches, which know the truth, while thousands are perishing out of Christ. If the proper instruction were given, if the proper methods were followed, every church member would do his work as a member of the body. He would do Christian missionary work. BUT THE CHURCHES ARE DYING, AND THEY WANT A MINISTER TO PREACH TO THEM. They should be taught to bring a faithful tithe to God, that he may strengthen and bless them. They should be brought into working order, that the breath of God may come to them. THEY SHOULD BE TAUGHT THAT UNLESS THEY CAN STAND ALONE, WITHOUT A MINISTER, THEY NEED TO BE CONVERTED ANEW, AND BAPTIZED ANEW. THEY NEED TO BE BORN AGAIN. (The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, pg. 1750.5)

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and BLIND, (deceived) and NAKED (lost). (Revelation 3:17)

...The message to the Laodiceans is applicable to Seventh‑day Adventists who have had great light and have not walked in the light. It is those who have made great profession, but have not kept in step with their Leader, that will be spewed out of His mouth unless they repent... (2 Selected Messages, pg. 66.2, Ellen G. White)

Naked is a metaphor that means without the robe of Christ's righteousness. Therefore, naked Laodicea is deceived and lost this very moment! Keep in mind, Jesus is the One who has revealed our condition. Therefore, it has to be true.

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, [Jesus] the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:14‑16)

Did you notice that Jesus, (the Amen, the faithful and true witness), said it is better to be cold than lukewarm? He is saying that a person who is out in the world and lost is in a better spiritual condition than a lukewarm Seventh‑day Adventist.

THE MESSAGE TO THE CHURCH OF THE LAODICEANS IS A STARTLING DENUNCIATION, AND IS APPLICABLE TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD AT THE PRESENT TIME. (Testimonies for the Church Volume Three, pg. 252.1 Ellen G. White)

And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. (Ezekiel 9:4‑6)

Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, ARE THOSE "THAT SIGH AND THAT CRY FOR ALL THE ABOMINATIONS THAT BE DONE IN THE CHURCH. [The Seventh‑day Adventist Church] (Maranatha 240.2, Ellen G. White)

If the last generation of Seventh‑day Adventists are going to be sighing and crying (agonizing in prayer) for the abominations that be done in the church, it is obvious, there must be abominations being committed in the church.

As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel's message, but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth, abandon their position and join the ranks of the opposition. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they have come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth, employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. THEY BECOME THE MOST BITTER ENEMIES OF THEIR FORMER BRETHREN. When Sabbathkeepers are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates are the most efficient agents of Satan to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them. (The Great Controversy pg 608.2, Ellen G. White)

THE SHAKING OF GOD BLOWS AWAY MULTITUDES [of Seventh‑day Adventists] LIKE DRY LEAVES. (4T 89 (1876) (Last Day Events 180.1, Ellen G. White)

The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. EVERY UNCOUTH THING WILL BE DEMONSTRATED. THERE WILL BE SHOUTING, WITH DRUMS, MUSIC, AND DANCING. THE SENSES OF RATIONAL BEINGS WILL BECOME SO CONFUSED THAT THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO MAKE RIGHT DECISIONS... (Last Day Events, pg. 159.1, Ellen G. White)

WE HAVE FAR MORE TO FEAR FROM WITHIN THAN FROM WITHOUT. THE HINDRANCES TO STRENGTH AND SUCCESS ARE FAR GREATER FROM THE CHURCH ITSELF THAN FROM THE WORLD... ...BUT HOW OFTEN HAVE THE PROFESSED ADVOCATES OF THE TRUTH PROVED THE GREATEST OBSTACLE TO ITS ADVANCEMENT! (Review and Herald; March 22, 1887, par. 4, Ellen G. White)

When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of truth and righteousness WHEN THE MAJORITY FORSAKE US, to fight the battles of the Lord WHEN CHAMPIONS ARE FEW—will be our test. At this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason. (5T 136 (1882). (Last Day Events 180.4, Ellen G. White)

How many of the Seventh‑day Adventist preachers and leaders do you hear warning the Seventh‑day Adventist people about apostasy from Seventh‑day Adventist preachers and leaders?

In the last remnant of time there will be so much confusion in the Seventh‑day Adventist Church, it will appear as if the church is about to self‑destruct. Multitudes of Seventh‑day Adventists will fall by the wayside. But we have this promise...

The church may appear as about to fall, BUT IT DOES NOT FALL. IT REMAINS, WHILE THE SINNERS IN ZION WILL BE SIFTED OUT—THE CHAFF SEPARATED FROM THE PRECIOUS WHEAT. THIS IS A TERRIBLE ORDEAL, BUT NEVERTHELESS IT MUST TAKE PLACE. (Last Day Events 180.5, Ellen G. White)

When you see multitudes of Adventist preachers and leaders abandoning the sinking Seventh‑day Adventist ship, this will be your test. But...

There is no need to doubt, to be fearful that the work will not succeed. God is at the head of the work, and He will set everything in order. If matters need adjusting at the head of the work God will attend to that, and work to right every wrong. LET US HAVE FAITH THAT GOD IS GOING TO CARRY THE NOBLE SHIP WHICH BEARS THE PEOPLE OF GOD SAFELY INTO PORT. (2SM 390, 1892) (Last Day Events 52.1)

Sanctified Through The Word

Why should we be concerned about a little bit of error?

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17)

This sanctification we must all experience, ELSE WE CAN NEVER GAIN ETERNAL LIFE. It is obtained by a union with Christ, a union which no power of Satan can break. (Review and Herald, July 25, 1899 par. 17, Ellen G. White)

EVERY ERROR IS SIN, and every sin has its origin with Satan. Wrong practices have blinded the eyes and blighted the perceptive faculties of men and women. We need now to be guarded on every point... (This day with God, 163.3, Ellen G. White)

FAITH IN A LIE WILL NOT HAVE A SANCTIFYING INFLUENCE UPON THE LIFE OR CHARACTER. NO ERROR IS TRUTH, OR CAN BE MADE TRUTH BY REPETITION, OR BY FAITH IN IT. SINCERITY WILL NEVER SAVE A SOUL FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF BELIEVING AN ERROR. WITHOUT SINCERITY THERE IS NO TRUE RELIGION, BUT SINCERITY IN A FALSE RELIGION WILL NEVER SAVE A MAN. I may be perfectly sincere in following a wrong road, but that will not make it the right road, or bring me to the place I wished to reach. The Lord does not want us to have a blind credulity, and call that the faith that sanctifies. THE TRUTH IS THE PRINCIPLE THAT SANCTIFIES, AND THEREFORE IT BECOMES US TO KNOW WHAT IS TRUTH. We must compare spiritual things with spiritual. We must prove all things, but hold fast ONLY that which is good, that which bears the divine credentials, which lays before us the true motives and principles which should prompt us to action. (Selected Messages, Book 2, 56.1, Ellen G. White)

As you continue through this website, it is critical to constantly keep in mind that false doctrine can never, never, never be converted into truth.

These [the 144,000] are they which were not defiled with women; FOR THEY ARE VIRGINS. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. (Revelation 14:4)

Throughout the Bible, sexual immorality and whoredom are used symbolically to represent false doctrine and false teachers, and virgins are used to represent those who possess the pure unadulterated truth. The 144,000 are the ones who will be translated without seeing death when Jesus comes back. Notice! They are virgins. They believe the pure unadulterated truth. They have discovered and rejected ALL false doctrine that has come across their path.

The reason we need to be so concerned with all error is because the character we form in this lifetime is the same character we will take into our next. Just one blemish in our character, taken to heaven, will be a seed that will sprout and grow into another rebellion. Therefore, Jesus is only going to allow wholly sanctified people into eternity. He is not going to change anyone's character at His second coming. Those who won't forsake every sin in this lifetime will be left behind.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. (Revelation 22:11, 12)

You can plug any attribute or behavior pattern into "he that is ______ let him be ______ still" and determine if it will take you up or down.

The Bible even includes such things as jealousy, malignity, debate, (Isn't debate what attorneys do for a living?), sorcery, (as used in Revelation 21:8, sorcery means pharmacy, or using any poisonous drug such as caffeine or nicotine), pride, whisper, talebaring, (even if the tale is true, it is still gossip), desire for gain, unbelief and fearfulness as behavior that will exclude one from eternity. (Study Zechariah 3:1‑5; Romans 1:28‑32, 2:1‑3; 1 Corinthians 5:7‑11, Galatians 5:19‑23; 2 Timothy 3:1‑7 and Revelation 21:8) Committing just one of these sins without repenting and confessing will be enough to bar the door to eternity.

If you would be a saint in heaven you must first be a saint on earth. THE TRAITS OF CHARACTER YOU CHERISH IN LIFE WILL NOT BE CHANGED BY DEATH OR BY THE RESURRECTION. YOU WILL COME UP FROM THE GRAVE WITH THE SAME DISPOSITION YOU MANIFESTED IN YOUR HOME AND IN SOCIETY. JESUS DOES NOT CHANGE THE CHARACTER AT HIS COMING. The work of transformation must be done now. Our daily lives are determining our destiny. Defects of character must be repented of and overcome through the grace of Christ, and a symmetrical character must be formed while in this probationary state, that we may be fitted for the mansions above. (Last Day Events 295.1, Ellen G. White) (1891)

What say the testimonies concerning these things? EVEN ONE WRONG TRAIT OF CHARACTER, ONE SINFUL DESIRE CHERISHED, WILL EVENTUALLY NEUTRALIZE ALL THE POWER OF THE GOSPEl. The prevalence of a sinful desire shows the delusion of the soul. Every indulgence of that desire strengthens the soul's aversion to God. The pains of duty and the pleasures of sin are the cords with which Satan binds men in his snares. THOSE WHO WOULD RATHER DIE THAN PERFORM A WRONG ACT ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL BE FOUND FAITHFUL. (Testimonies for the Church, Volume 5, pg. 53.2)

Our Creator is never going to allow a partly sanctified person into eternity so they can start another rebellion, and believing false doctrine will keep one unsanctified.

The Most Subtle Deceptions

Every Seventh‑day Adventist should know that the Seventh‑day Adventist Church is on top of the Devil's hit list and he is working overtime to bring in every damnable heresy and all the confusion he can.

Hopefully, you have seen from the preceding Bible and Ellen White prophecies that the Devil has conceived the most cunning and seductive deceptions of all time, not for the world, but for the Seventh‑day Adventist people. And he has always used the highly visible and popular to do his bidding. The above inspired predictions are no longer future, they are all being fulfilled in the Seventh‑day Adventist Church today.

In every church era throughout history, God's people invariable succumbed to error and fell away. Therefore, why should we expect anything different from the lukewarm Seventh‑day Laodiceans? Jesus Himself said the Laodiceans are blind (deceived) and naked, (without His robe of righteousness) (Revelation 3:17) Remember, those who are deceived do not know they are deceived.

What seems strange is the vast majority of professed Bible believing Seventh‑day Adventists apparently do not believe Revelation 3:17 applies to them personally, even when the omniscient Jesus says it does. Why won't we believe Him?

It seems the mindset of most is "maybe the rest of the congregation are Laodiceans, but not me." And when the rest of the congregation believe the same thing, can you see a major problem? Until we, as individuals, acknowledge our own besetting sins and forsake each and every one, there is no hope for us.

When the "time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation" hits, those who are sinning because they accepted false doctrine, and refuse to let go, will not be standing when the smoke clears.

SATAN HOPES TO INVOLVE THE REMNANT PEOPLE OF GOD IN THE GENERAL RUIN THAT IS COMING UPON THE EARTH. As the coming of Christ draws nigh, he will be more determined and decisive in his efforts to overthrow them. MEN AND WOMEN WILL ARISE PROFESSING TO HAVE SOME NEW LIGHT OR SOME NEW REVELATION WHOSE TENDENCY IS TO UNSETTLE FAITH IN THE OLD LANDMARKS. Their doctrines will not bear the test of God's word, yet souls will be deceived. False reports will be circulated, and some will be taken in this snare. They will believe these rumors and in their turn will repeat them, and thus a link will be formed connecting them with the archdeceiver. This spirit will not always be manifested in an open defiance of the messages that God sends, but a settled unbelief is expressed in many ways. Every false statement that is made feeds and strengthens this unbelief, and through this means many souls will be balanced in the wrong direction. (Testimonies for the Church Vol. 5, pg. 295.3, Ellen G. White)

"...WHEN THE MAJORITY FORSAKE US, to fight the battles of the Lord WHEN CHAMPIONS ARE FEW—THIS WILL BE OUR TEST..." (Last Day Events 180.4, Ellen G. White)
